Exam pattern, negative marking and qualifying marks
The computer-based exam has two compulsory sessions on the same day, 45 minutes each (60 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe). Session-I has Numerical and Mathematical Ability (20 questions, 60 marks) and Reasoning Ability and Problem Solving (20 questions, 60 marks). Session-II has General Awareness (25 questions, 75 marks) and English Language and Comprehension (25 questions, 75 marks).
There is no negative marking in Session-I. In Session-II each wrong answer costs one mark. The exam is offered in Hindi, English and 13 regional languages for Session-I and the General Awareness section of Session-II.
Session-I is evaluated first, and Session-II is evaluated only if you qualify in Session-I. The minimum qualifying marks in each session are 30% for UR, 25% for OBC and EWS and 20% for all other categories. For MTS, the merit list is prepared solely on normalised Session-II marks, with separate category-wise and state/UT-wise cut-offs. For Havaldar, candidates are shortlisted for the PET/PST in a ratio of 1:7 on the basis of Session-II.
If candidates tie on Session-II aggregate marks, the tie is broken by General Awareness marks in Session-II, then total normalised Session-I marks, then date of birth (older first), then alphabetical order of names.
