SSC GD is the Staff Selection Commission's examination for Constable (General Duty) in the Central Armed Police Forces (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB), Constable in the Secretariat Security Force (SSF) and Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles. The 2026 cycle, notified on 1 December 2025, lists 25,487 tentative vacancies: 23,467 for men and 2,020 for women.

Every post is in Pay Level-3 (₹21,700 – ₹69,100). The minimum qualification is Matriculation (10th pass) and the age band is 18 to 23 years on 01-01-2026, with category relaxations on top.

Selection moves through a single computer-based exam of 80 questions, a Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test, and a detailed medical examination with document verification. Vacancies are filled State/UT-wise on the basis of your domicile, and the force you get depends on your CBE merit and the order of your seven force preferences.

Force-wise vacancies 2026

CISF carries by far the biggest share this year, with more than half of all posts. SSB and SSF have no posts for women in this cycle. The numbers are tentative and the Commission can change them; the State/UT-wise breakdown is published separately on the SSC website.

Apart from the overall split, posts in the CAPFs are distributed among States and UTs, and your domicile (or PRC) for the State/UT you choose in the form is what places you in that pool. A mismatch between the chosen State/UT and the certificate produced later leads to cancellation.

Pay level

All posts in this examination, whether Constable (GD) in a CAPF or SSF or Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles, sit in Pay Level-3 of the 7th Pay Commission matrix, which runs from ₹21,700 to ₹69,100. The notice prints only the pay level, so allowances and take-home pay are not covered here.

Age limit, relaxation and qualification

Age is counted on the crucial date of 01-01-2026. You must be between 18 and 23 years, which means a date of birth no earlier than 02-01-2003 and no later than 01-01-2008, both dates included.

The only educational requirement is Matriculation or 10th class pass from a recognised board or university, and the result must have been declared on or before 01-01-2026. A result that is still being processed on that date does not count.

Physical Efficiency Test and Physical Standard Test

The physical stage is conducted by CRPF, which also issues its admit cards. The race is the PET; height and chest measurement form the PST. There is no appeal against the PET race result, but a candidate found short on height or chest can appeal on the same day through the Presiding Officer. Women must hand in a self-declaration about pregnancy status when they report.

Weight is not a fixed figure: it must be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards. Chest is measured only for men; for women it is not measured, though chest development is checked.

Height/chest relaxation must be supported by the certificate in Annexure IX at the medical/DV stage.

Detailed medical examination

Candidates who clear the PET/PST are called for a Detailed Medical Examination (DME) together with document verification. The medical examination follows the Uniform Guidelines for medical examination issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (OM dated 31.05.2021); the notice refers to those guidelines instead of printing the individual standards, so read them on the MHA website before you appear.

Exam pattern, qualifying marks and final merit

There is one objective paper of 80 questions worth 2 marks each, so 160 marks in all, to be finished in 60 minutes. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. Because the exam runs in many shifts, raw marks are normalised using the procedure the Commission published in its notice of 02.06.2025.

NCC certificate holders get bonus marks added to the normalised score, provided they tick the NCC option in the form and the certificate was issued on or before 01-01-2026. The bonus stays provisional until the certificate is checked at DV. Minimum qualifying marks are applied without the bonus.

The final merit list is built from normalised CBE marks plus any NCC bonus, for candidates who have also qualified the PET/PST and the medical examination and DV. If two candidates tie, the Commission looks in turn at marks in Part A, then Part B, then Part C, then the older date of birth, and finally alphabetical order of names.
